A 1999 Gibson Custom Shop "Historic Collection 1958 Korina Explorer Reissue" has arrived in stock


In 1992, when the Gibson Custom Shop Division was founded, the "Historic Collection Series" was conceived
as a new line to recreate Gibson guitars from the golden age for the modern era

The very first model released as part of this landmark series was not a Les Paul, but this “Korina Modanistic Guitar”!!
It was a reissue of the legendary “Flying V” and “Explorer” models, of which only a few dozen originals were ever produced

Seven years after that 1992 launch, a very limited number were produced—including this 1999 58 Korina Explorer that has just arrived in stock!
It was released as a reissue of the 1958 model, of which only 18 originals were produced

Not only is the body itself a masterpiece—recreated using rare Korina wood with the same wood selection and construction as the original—
but the fact that even the case has been reissued to match the 1950s original is a hallmark of the “Historic Collection Series.”

Naturally, the body is crafted from a single piece of Corina wood, and every detail—from the headstock’s wood selection to the neck joint—has been faithfully reproduced.

Externally, while there are minor signs of use, it remains in excellent clean condition overall!

Internally, it is an original with no modifications, and it comes equipped with the “’57 Classic” pickups—the same ones used on the ’59 reissue models of that era

The Historic Series Corina Explorer has been produced in small batches on several occasions to date, but in recent models, it has become difficult to use one-piece Corina wood, and two-piece wood has become the standard
In 2010, only 18 one-piece models were produced as part of the Murphy Aged edition; while the original price was $25,000,
the current used market price is nearly double that amount.

As you are likely aware, rare woods have become increasingly scarce in recent years, so it is expected that the rarity value of reissue models of the one-piece Corina Explorer will continue to rise.
