A 1960 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins Hollow Body “Smoke” has arrived in stock


Gretsch’s mid-range “Model 6120 Chet Atkins”

This model was positioned exactly like Gibson’s “Les Paul Standard.” Visually, while rare,
it features flame maple—similar to the Burst Les Paul—and is equipped with “Filter’Tron” pickups that have a humbucking structure similar to PAF pickups

The model we’ve just received is a 1960 “6120”!

Produced in the mid-1960s, it features a “medium-depth body” similar to late-1959 models, and the bracing is “truss bracing.”

This particular model is in a well-worn condition—it’s easy to imagine it has been played extensively—but
it shares the same look as “Smoke,” the long-time favorite of Mr. 6120, Brian Setzer.

The finish itself has lost its overall luster and shows natural aging typical of nitrocellulose lacquer, giving it a truly “Smoke”-like appearance.
Additionally, due to extensive playing, the finish has thinned in some areas, such as the elbow section, and the back of the neck has thinned similarly, allowing for very smooth position changes.

Distinctive decals (stickers) are affixed to the left and right sides of the body top and on the headstock; however, they appear to have been there for quite some time and have deteriorated with age.

As for the specifications, the pickups are the original Filter’Tron pickups. While the master volume pot has been replaced, all other controls are original.

Additionally, the pickguard is missing. Although the original pickup rings were included, they were already cracked,
so replacement rings are currently installed.

The tremolo unit was originally a Bigsby unit with the “Gretch” logo, but, like the “Smoke” model,
it is now equipped with a “Bigsby B6” from the same era as the original.

The sound is unique to the original vintage “6120,” combining power with delicacy—the combination of the original Filter’Tron pickups and the body with its trellis-braced construction creates a one-of-a-kind tone.

Not only does it deliver a great driven sound when paired with a Fender Bassman amp or a vintage Marshall amp,
but it also handles clean country riffs like those of Chet Atkins—whose signature model this is—with ease.
This is a true classic among vintage Gretsch guitars!
