Born in 1935, Masashi Nobe comes from a family of traditional Edo cabinetmakers. The origins of the Nobe Guitar Workshop date back to his father, Ikuei Nobe, a highly skilled craftsman specializing in sashimono (traditional Japanese fine joinery), who began repairing guitars by applying his woodworking expertise.

In 1965, Masashi Nobe established his own independent workshop. Reflecting his family's heritage, his guitars are distinguished by carefully selected tonewoods, exceptional craftsmanship, elegant design, and refined aesthetics. His instruments possess a warm, understated beauty both visually and sonically. While firmly rooted in the Spanish classical guitar tradition, Nobe's guitars avoid excessive brilliance in favor of a mature, deeply expressive voice—often described as possessing the quiet sophistication of "burnished silver." This distinctive tonal character gives his instruments an individuality rarely found among Japanese makers.

This is No. 076, built in 2008, with a 640 mm scale length.

The guitar offers an exceptionally well-balanced sound and effortless playability, making it feel completely natural in the hands of the player. It has the versatility to perform well across a wide range of musical styles and is an excellent choice for beginners while offering enough musical potential to satisfy advancing players. Although its overall volume is moderate, the response is quick and the tonal balance is outstanding. Nobe's signature warm, mellow, and richly nuanced tone provides a refined sound that appeals to both beginner and intermediate guitarists.

The guitar features a French polish (shellac) finish and is fitted with Sloane tuning machines. The neck has a slim profile and remains perfectly straight, while the frets show virtually no wear. The action is set at 3.0 mm on the first string and 3.5 mm on the sixth string, resulting in a comfortable, relatively soft string tension with excellent responsiveness and a forgiving touch, making the instrument exceptionally easy to play.

Now approximately 16 years old, the guitar shows numerous signs of regular use. The soundboard has scattered playing marks and small dents, while the back exhibits various surface scratches consistent with contact from clothing during performance. Despite these cosmetic blemishes, the finish remains in good condition, and the guitar plays beautifully with no issues affecting its performance or structural integrity.

A lightweight case is included.
