英国のマスタールシアー、Andy Mansonによるブランド、A.B.Manson。
1967年に自分用の荒削りなギターを製作するところからキャリアをスタートし、現在では単なる楽器としてではなく、芸術の域に達した作品を生みだすベテランルシアーです。
個人製作家として活躍する中、1991年にはサイモン・スミッドモアとアンディ・ペセリック（共に現Brook Guitars）が加わり、A.B.Manson & Co.となります。
本器はそんなA.B.Manson & Co.の最初期である1990年に製作された、ハカランダ仕様の豪華版Magpieの極上USED品。

ヘッドロゴは1991年よりスタートする「A.B.Manson & Co.」ロゴではありますが、こちらは1990年9月9日というキリの良い製作年月日の作品。アンディ・マンソン氏本人に確認したところ、本器は3人体制になる前、Andy Mansonとして個人で運営していた時に、アンディ氏自らが製作した一本ということでした。
モデル名のMagpie=マグパイは、イギリスではポピュラーな鳥、カササギに由来しております。
品のある上質なヨーロピアンスプルースに、ワイルドな木目がハカランダボディ、ヘッドから指板、ブリッジにかけて施された繊細なインレイなど、豪華仕様となっております。
ボディシェイプは000をベースに、くびれ幅を通常よりも僅かに狭めることによってどこか特徴的な印象を受けます。また、ボディ厚も上部90mm、下部105mmとやや厚めとなっております。
甘く透き通った高音域と深みのある低音、各弦のバランスの良さも完璧で、プレイヤーが自己陶酔してしまうような気持ち良さがあります。
トップに僅かな打コンや使用感、ピックガードの経年によるシワなどが見受けられます。エンドピン部は過去にPU取り付け用の12mm加工があり、ネックヒールにはストラップピンを装着しておりますが、いずれにしても年式を考えると綺麗なコンディションとなっております。
日本で見かけることは非常に稀なAndy Manson氏自らが手がけたギター、気になる方はぜひお問い合わせください。
