You've played countless fine acoustic guitars in pursuit of the ultimate instrument, yet you still haven't found anything that surpasses the rich overtones and profound tone of legendary Brazilian rosewood. Sound familiar?

Every guitar lover understands that feeling deeply. Since the 1992 CITES (Washington Convention) placed strict restrictions on the commercial trade of Brazilian rosewood, genuinely fine examples using true Brazilian rosewood have all but vanished from the market, becoming something close to legend. Many have quietly given up on the dream of ever owning a true D-45 Brazilian rosewood model.

But here is the guitar that puts an end to that search - this 1998 Martin CTM D-45 Brazilian Rosewood.

The D-45 has reigned as Martin's flagship since its origins in a custom order from Gene Autry in 1933. This particular example was built in 1998, after the CITES restrictions took effect, using precious old-stock Brazilian rosewood that Martin had carefully kept in reserve and specially released for this custom model - built without compromise.

Carefully selected premium Engelmann spruce is paired with strikingly dark, richly figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Precise abalone inlay work by master craftsmen shines brilliantly across the entire body. A single strum reveals a thunderous, ground-shaking low end intertwining with crystalline, bell-like highs, wrapping the player in a blissful wall of sound. With roughly a quarter century of aging, the wood has matured into an exquisite vintage tone that simply can't be found in a new build.

Martin's pre-restriction Brazilian rosewood stock is now essentially exhausted, making it practically impossible to order an equivalent spec from the current Custom Shop. This means this instrument is a one-of-a-kind historical asset, and its value can only be expected to keep rising. There's no telling when - or if - another example of this caliber will come to market again.
