☆For information on mail-order sales, please see the Shop Information section on our website☆ A 1962 Fender "Stratocaster Refined & Aged by Tom Murphy" has arrived! This is an early Stratocaster from the round fingerboard era, which has been extremely popular in the vintage market in recent years!
This particular model is a 1962 Stratocaster from the very earliest days of the round fingerboard era! The body refinishing and aging were performed by Tom Murphy, founder of "Guitar Preservation," who is renowned for his work on Gibson Custom Shop’s "Historic Series."
Naturally, the body has been refinished with nitrocellulose lacquer, and while the neck features some overspray of clear coat in places, the headstock decal is original, and the “2 AUG 62 B” stamp remains on the neck heel.
The pickups are original from the black bobbin era, and both the front and rear pickups have been rewound. Additionally, the switch has been modified to a practical 5-way configuration, and the pots are dated from the 1970s. Other hardware, such as the tuners and tremolo unit, is original vintage. The pickguard is an aged reproduction of the Green Guard, and other plastic parts, such as the pickup covers, are also original.
The sound features a fat tone with strong low-end, carrying on the legacy of the Slab Neck era. However, it’s not just thick—it’s a powerful, well-defined sound that defines the appeal of this period! While an original finish would command a hefty price tag these days, this refinished model—aged by Tom Murphy—offers both great looks and sound, making it a highly recommended vintage piece available at Players Place!
