Ovation 1981 AdamasⅡ 1681-8
This 1981 Adamas II predates Ovation's official 1982 launch of the model, making it one of the earliest prototype-era examples built with the full craftsmanship of the team ahead of the official release.
Adamas's essence lies in its ultra-thin carbon graphite top - born from aerospace technology - fused with Ovation's proprietary deep-bowl Lyrachord body.
Strumming a chord reveals a deep, sweeping low end unlike any conventional acoustic guitar, paired with crystalline highs that cut through cleanly. This immediate response and unique compression character are unique to Adamas guitars of this era.
A particular highlight for vintage Adamas fans is the wood volume/tone knobs mounted on the body side - the so-called "wood 2-knob" configuration.
Unlike the graphic-EQ preamps (like the OP preamp) found on later models, this earliest discrete FET preamp offers a remarkably thick, organic tone free of unnecessary coloration.
Supporting both mono and stereo output, this circuit delivers warmth and spaciousness reminiscent of a quality tube amp direct into the line.
The finish is equally striking: a reverse blue burst that brightens toward the edges, shifting character with the viewing angle, and the iconic Adamas multi-soundhole (epaulette) design gives it an art-object presence.
