The modern D-18 truly is an excellent instrument that meets nearly any player's demands. And yet, no matter how carefully you play it in, it never quite steps outside that well-mannered, honor-student box. Have you ever felt that vague sense of something missing, some subtle emptiness, about that?
What you're really after might not be an overly refined, pretty tone, but something more raw: the "living resonance" of real wood directly shaking the air.
This 1979 Martin D-18 is exactly the guitar that can satisfy that craving from the core.
Built in the latter half of the 1970s, this guitar has reached, after roughly half a century, a level of resonance that today's technology simply cannot replicate. The combination of Sitka spruce and mahogany, the origin point and pinnacle of the acoustic guitar all in one material pairing.
With the moisture in the wood fully dried out and the internal resin crystallized, the whole body has transformed into an astonishingly strong resonating box despite being lightweight.
The moment you strike a string, the low end resonates deep in your chest, while the mid-to-high range has a rounded, mellowed edge yet asserts a powerful core that never gets buried. This has a rough, warm, genuinely alive character that's the polar opposite of the "crisp hardness" of a brand-new instrument.
And what defines this particular example's character are the delicate weather-checking lines etched into the top. Relic-style aging techniques have become popular in recent years, but the cracking in this guitar's finish is proof of real history - something only genuine time and changing environments can produce. Proof that this guitar has spent years by someone's side, supporting their songs, through season after season.

- Weather-checking is visible on the body top, but the guitar is in very nice condition for its age.
- No fretting-out or buzzing; playing condition is good.

- Saddle protrusion: approx. 1.5-1.7mm
- The Martin logo plate on top of the hardcase is missing.
