Martin / 2007 D-28 Marquis Sunburst with L.R. Baggs iBeam

A popular model that recreates the now-discontinued vintage D-28.

The "D-28 Marquis" arrived in 2004, following in the footsteps of the HD-28 and Golden Era, faithfully recreating a 1930s vintage D-28 down to the smallest detail — a genuinely appealing model worth owning as a lifetime instrument for anyone who admires the originals.

The forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, butterbean open-back tuners, and ivoroid cell binding all evoke a wonderfully vintage feel.

This unit reflects the spec used from 1934 into the late 1930s, when the 14-fret neck joint began. Tony Rice is a memorable D-28 player from that era; he famously played a 1935 D-28 he received from Clarence White, and its serial number "58957" even lent its name to one of his album titles.

D-28's history across bluegrass, rock, folk, pop and beyond speaks for itself in terms of versatility.

This instrument's shaded sunburst finish is, on the vintage market, a special specification that commands a higher price than natural finish.

Sound-wise, it has a fast attack and a sultry midrange — a voluminous, open, superb tone.
