1964 Gibson J-45. This mid-1960s J-45 represents the model's golden era, loved by countless legendary musicians. 1964 in particular is the final year of the regular-width neck before the extremely narrow neck taper introduced in 1965, combining a solid grip with a thick, focused sound that makes it one of the most sought-after and highly valued years in the vintage market. Adjustable saddle gives a percussive, quick-decay chime that sits well against vocals for strumming or full-band ensemble work. The 14-degree headstock angle used through 1964, paired with the regular-width neck, gives comfortable tension and rich resonance with a low-mid torque that a narrower neck can't produce. A vivid cherry sunburst has faded beautifully over 60 years into a distinguished vintage hue, with weather-checking across the body. A thin tortoise pickguard has been replaced by a thicker, reddish large pickguard. Given its age, expect scratches, wear, and dings from picking, but there's no strap-pin added at the neck heel and no major wood damage — clearly a well cared-for instrument. Frets have been leveled and dressed. Repaired crack on lower right of the plastic bridge. Finish chip on the 6th-string side at the 13th fret on the neck side. Finish chips at the 3rd and 6th frets on the neck back, though they don't catch while playing. Slight bridge lifting is present but it's secured with 4 bolts and is structurally sound. Split at one of the latch areas of the chipboard case. The small-parts pocket flap inside the case has torn off. Action at the 12th fret: 2.5mm on the low E side, 2.1mm on the high E side. Adjustable saddle allows raising/lowering action. No choking or buzzing; playing condition is good. Specs: Top Spruce, Side/Back Mahogany, Fingerboard/Bridge Rosewood, Neck Mahogany, Nut width 42mm, Scale 627mm, Case Chipboard Case.
