Ovation 1980 Adamas II 1681-8 - developed to bring the Super Adamas to more players at a more accessible price.
The Super Adamas won over many artists with its carbon graphite top and fiberglass-reinforced back, designed to stay in top playing condition regardless of humidity and temperature, and with a light yet enveloping sound.
The Adamas II keeps the essential carbon graphite top, with evenly spaced vertical lines sprinkled with sparkle like stars in a galaxy, and finely engraved binding. The soundhole features the signature epaulet (leaf-pattern) decoration made from woods including teak, rosewood, and maple. The back is fiberglass-reinforced Lyrachord in a brown-based finish, and the Deep Contour bowl may be the secret behind the Adamas' bold sound.
The walnut fingerboard has wooden three-diamond inlays. The neck is mahogany sandwiching maple and walnut, with the Adamas V-shape that sits naturally in the hand. The walnut bridge drops the Super Adamas engraving for a simpler design, and the headstock uses the standard Ovation shape with an Adamas logo instead of the Super Adamas' elaborate carving - decoration costs were reduced without compromising sound. Gold Rotomatic tuners provide stable tuning. Electronics are an FET Preamp with wooden BRIGHT/DEEP and VOLUME knobs on the upper bout side.
