- Dreadnought depth meets 000 balance
The graceful jumbo body is essentially a scaled-up 000. The deep waist gives clear string separation and fast attack, while the dreadnought-equivalent body depth delivers rich bass and big volume.
- Scalloped bracing for superb response
Like the HD-28, it uses scalloped X-bracing to get the most out of the top. Together with vintage-style herringbone binding, it produces airy, full overtones even with a light touch.
- Nearly 30 years of aging
Almost three decades since 1995 have thoroughly aged the spruce and rosewood. The stiffness of a new guitar is gone, and it responds immediately to every nuance, from strumming to fingerpicking.
Jumbo models were produced in far smaller numbers than Martin's dreadnoughts and 000s and rarely appear on the used market. A 90s HJ-28 with a matured voice, in condition suitable for real-world use, is a quietly sought-after model among pros and devoted fans who know its balanced sound.
