YAMAHA 1990 LL-35J - made in the first month of the model's first year of release.
[Staff comment: Inoue]
At the end of 1985, Yamaha launched the LL series, drawing on ten years of know-how from the L series. The LL-35J was one of the models added to the LL line, and this example was built in the first month of its first year of release.
Key LL-series features promoted by Yamaha at the time were the L-block and asymmetrical X-bracing. The L-block is a proprietary structure at the neck/body joint, developed to improve vibration transfer for a responsive tone and to stabilize action against changes over time. The asymmetrical X-bracing aims to give the jumbo body a rich voice with fuller lows and clearer highs.
Unique to the LL-35J is a one-piece African mahogany neck, adopted for a fat tone. Solid Ezo spruce top, solid palisander back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, TM-57G tuners, long scale. List price at the time was 200,000 yen (excluding tax) - a high-spec model focused on sound quality.
The sound features deep jumbo-body lows and a thick, strong-cored midrange, with highs that project clearly, so it stays well balanced for both strumming and arpeggios. After more than 35 years of playing-in, the body is very responsive, with notes that bloom the instant you play.
