Ovation 1984 Super Adamas 1687-8, built during what is regarded as Ovation's "golden era."
The defining element of this model's sound is its ultra-thin molded carbon graphite top, which current models do not reproduce. The note rises the instant the pick touches the string, with a speed and delicacy that sounds crystal clear. The deep-bowl body, an Ovation hallmark, supports those refined highs with a rich, deep low end reminiscent of a grand piano, even acoustically, so delicacy and dynamics combine naturally in a single sound image.
The control section features 2-way wooden knobs and an early stereo FET preamp, giving a plugged-in tone with sheen and strong projection beyond the acoustic sound.
The aerospace-derived carbon graphite top is contrasted with finely carved details on the headstock and bridge, and multi-layered wood epaulets on the top add warmth. The color is the perennially most popular Reverse Blue Burst, whose coarse period sparkle beneath the deep indigo gradient changes character with lighting and viewing angle.
This example is in excellent condition: the top, the wood carvings, and the FET preamp all remain in fine shape.
