Ovation 1979 Super Adamas 1687-9 - a flagship instrument built with all of Ovation's technology to answer the question "how can an acoustic guitar resonate more richly?"
Its defining feature is an ultra-thin sandwich top of carbon graphite and birch. At just 1.27mm, about one third of a typical top's thickness, it resists temperature and humidity changes and vibrates freely across its whole surface, responding honestly to the player's touch. Instead of a central soundhole, multiple soundholes are placed on the upper bout so as not to block the top's vibration.
The wooden epaulets, shaped after the acanthus leaves of Greek architecture, use a variety of fine woods such as Burmese teak, Indian rosewood, and amaranth. The brown finish evokes autumn foliage. Wooden knobs are a feature of early Super Adamas models - keeping the warmth of wood on a futuristic carbon-graphite body, a philosophy also visible in the headstock and bridge.
The neck has a built-in, specially designed aluminum "Kaman Bar" reinforcement, and the fingerboard is resin-impregnated walnut, resistant to humidity and sweat and highly wear-resistant. The fingerboard "floats" above the top so it doesn't interfere with vibration, giving remarkably quick response.
The sound: highs project straight out, lows stay focused without excess boom, and overtones are rich yet clear, picking up every detail of your touch. It also has the early Adamas stereo output, separating strings 1/3/5 and 2/4/6 into left and right channels for a three-dimensional sound image.

[Condition]
Slight scuffs on the back of the body; overall clean cosmetic condition.
No buzzing, choking, or other playability issues.
Action at the 12th fret: 2.6mm low E side, 1.6mm high E side.
Saddle protrusion approximately 2-4mm.
Electronics work without issues.
After arrival at our shop, the neck angle was adjusted and the guitar was refretted for excellent playability; the neck finish was redone as part of this work.
