Product Description

Keystone 2016 Jujube.

Keystone Stringed Instruments is the brand of Keisuke Nishi, one of Japan's top luthiers. After building experience at guitar-making schools and instrument companies in Japan and abroad, and studying under Mario Beauregard (said to be Ervin Somogyi's foremost apprentice), he has built guitars under the Keystone name since 2007.

The Jujube, his signature model, is a small body roughly equivalent to a Martin 00 to 0 size, but combines its compact 14-fret-joint body with a long 648mm scale. Small guitars are comfortable but tend to lack tension in the tone; Nishi resolves this with precise woodworking and carefully calculated bracing. The 14-fret joint gives clear, responsive, deep and rich lows, while the long-scale tension produces remarkably sparkling, crystal-clear highs.

Extremely comfortable to hold, and notably stable in down-tunings and open tunings: even with reduced tension the sound never collapses and each string stays clearly defined. The cutaway, combined with the 14-fret design, makes high-position playing stress-free. Responsive to delicate fingerstyle as well as gentle strumming and song accompaniment. All parts work in harmony, and the guitar already has strong body resonance that will continue to develop with playing. Features an original rosette with craft-like detail.
