ASTURIAS 2014 Red Hawk, supervised by TAKA TAKEDA, who has been involved in ASTURIAS planning, design and sales for over half a century since joining in 1973. A special model made in a run of only 40 to commemorate the brand's 40th anniversary.
The Alaska spruce top is not just bright but has a firm, focused tension, supporting the deep lows and beautiful layered overtones of the rosewood back and sides. The rosewood fingerboard and ebony bridge balance attack and sustain, and with stable Gotoh tuners it is built as a tool meant to be played for many years.
A notable feature is the "Big Wave" treatment on the underside of the top: wave-shaped grooves are carved along the grain, greatly increasing the effective vibrating area inside the body. It is hard to see, but you can feel the fine carving by reaching through the soundhole and tracing the underside of the top. The result is not just volume but a sound that fills the whole space. Played softly, notes project forward while keeping their definition; strummed, it delivers dreadnought-style dynamics. The Mexican abalone hawk inlay on the headstock is the guitar's emblem.

Action at the 12th fret: 2.3mm low E side, 1.7mm high E side. Saddle protrusion approximately 2.0-2.5mm. No buzzing, choking or other playing issues.
