Ovation Super Adamas 1587-2 — an in-depth look at the "ideal acoustic" Ovation pursued.
The story began in the 1970s, when aerospace engineer Charlie Kaman questioned the assumption that an acoustic guitar must be made of wood, and set out to build the acoustic of the future with an engineer's mindset. The Adamas, introduced in 1976, respects the beauty and tradition of the acoustic guitar while being designed through trial and error to maximize sound. Its top is carbon fiber: combining stiffness and thinness, it achieved a "thin yet strong" top impossible with conventional wood, fundamentally changing the quality of vibration. The result is a sound with a honed, strong core, different from the mellowing that comes with aged wood.
This Super Adamas 1587-2 (1994) lets you experience the full design philosophy of the flagship model. It is most eloquent the moment you play it: the planted low-mids unique to the Adamas, a punchy thickness on strums as if the whole body pushes the sound out as a surface, highs that extend straight without losing definition, and the Lyrachord bowl back that spreads the sound like an amphitheater. Excellent separation with resonant lows.
It is also a dependable working instrument. The onboard OP-24 preamp is easy to use and makes plugged-in tone shaping intuitive, giving you clear control of your sound live or in the studio. Often seen as an oddball for its looks, its form is the result of pursuing playability, durability, and sound at a high level. Highly recommended for players who want their sound to be their weapon.
