A 1979 Tokai "LS120" Les Paul Reborn has arrived in stock
In the late 1970s, Tokai Gakki introduced a model that, true to its name “Les Paul Reborn,”
recreated the 1959 Burst Les Paul Standard
The body and neck shapes were cast directly from the originals, and the model was developed with meticulous attention to materials and craftsmanship. What’s truly astonishing is that
even the outsourced hardware parts were manufactured using the same shapes and materials as vintage parts—a testament to the dedication of the developers at the time.
This model is It is the most popular Les Paul model among Japanese vintage guitars, both domestically and internationally.
The model we’ve just received is a 1979 “LS120”—a high-end model from the early days of its release!
It’s the first version featuring the “Les Paul Reborn” logo on the headstock.
With a solid two-piece maple top and a one-piece mahogany body, among other features, this model is an exquisite replica of the original burst finish from that era. It was highly popular not only back then but it has enjoyed immense popularity worldwide in recent years, and is said to have influenced the original Gibson Les Paul Reborn models that appeared around 1982.
This particular model features a two-piece solid flame maple top, with the body back and neck crafted from one-piece mahogany.
Externally, there is some minor wear typical of its age, but considering it is a Japanese-made guitar that has been out of production for about half a century,
it remains in generally good condition.
In terms of specifications, while it originally came equipped with DiMarzio “PAF” pickups, we have retained the classic “Double White” look. However, we have replaced the pickups with hand-wound PAF replicas custom-ordered by our shop from a U.S. pickup builder, which use bobbin shapes and materials identical to those of vintage “PAFs.”
Additionally, the control circuit—which uses the original circuit board and is a known weak point of the TOKAI LS models—has been upgraded to CTS pots and
Sprague Orange Drop capacitors, though the original circuit board is also included. Other small parts, such as the strap pins, have been replaced, but all other parts are original.
The “TOKAI LS Series” from this era is renowned for its sound!
Thanks to the upgrades to the pickups and controls, it delivers an even sweeter, more vintage-like Les Paul sound!
A Tokai original hard-shell case is included.
The body features a two-piece maple top.
The “LS120” stamp is visible inside the front pickup cutout.
