Product Description

Gibson 1961 Southern Jumbo, the upper-grade model in Gibson's round-shoulder line, combining genuine vintage presence with superb tone.

Positioned above the J-45, it features a crown headstock inlay, double parallelogram fingerboard inlays, and multi-layer body binding that stand out under stage lights. Select mahogany and spruce give it a richness and tonal definition a step beyond the J-45.

More than 60 years of aging have matured the spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Gibson's earthy, crisp attack is joined by glossy mids and highs and full lows developed through years of playing, with excellent balance from powerful strumming to delicate arpeggios.

Its strong projection holds up in both solo singer-songwriter and band settings, and the early-'60s neck grip sits comfortably in the hand. This is not a museum piece: it remains highly practical as a main guitar for live and recording use today. Good early-'60s Southern Jumbos in ready-to-play condition are becoming hard to find.
