Product Description

Martin 1988 J-45 CUSTOM, combining the dazzling looks and sparkling tone of the 45 series with the balance of one of Martin's largest body volumes and a waisted shape. An answer for players who love the 45 series but are put off by the price of a D-45 or the swelling low end of a dreadnought, and who want better balance for fingerstyle and delicate arpeggios.

Top-of-the-line custom J-body model: the J shape gives the M shape, called Martin's most beautiful body line, the same depth as a dreadnought. Luxurious abalone inlay borders the entire body, and the headstock features a vertical logo. As a custom order not found in the regular lineup, it is an extremely rare instrument.

Nearly 40 years of aging have matured the selected Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood. The clear, uncluttered mids and highs of the J shape blend with deep, tight lows for the harmonically rich, crystalline tone only the 45 series can produce, in excellent balance.

With volume and depth equal to a dreadnought, the waisted body still fits comfortably when playing seated. Its tough construction also makes it a practical main guitar for live and recording use, and an '80s J-45 Custom in ready-to-play condition rarely comes to market.

[Playing Condition]
Action at the 12th fret: 2.2mm low E side, 1.5mm high E side. Saddle protrusion approximately 2.0-2.5mm. No choking or buzzing; playing condition is good.
