A 1966 J-45 in custom color Cherry Red. The year may raise questions, since Gibson acoustic custom colors (mainly Cherry Red and Ebony Black) generally carry 1967-1969 serial dates.
The key is the "BGN" stamp on the back of the headstock. We believe it was applied at the Gibson factory rather than added later by an owner. BGN is one of the identification marks stamped on headstock backs at the factory and is said to stand for "Bargain," indicating a heavily discounted guitar for employees that reportedly did not reach the general market. We therefore believe this example had an issue that kept it from general distribution and was sold to an employee in Cherry Red.
Its market value may have been low at the time, but a custom color with a 1966 date can hardly be found today, making this a very rare item.
There is a crack repair on the back, but the nut is the only replaced part (the original plastic nut is included), and the original Cherry Red finish remains well preserved. Condition and playability are good. A recommended example that also has collectible appeal.

Signs of bridge re-gluing. Crack repair at the lower left of the back; there is a step in the surface, but it is patch-reinforced from the inside and poses no problem in use. Nut replaced (original included).
[Playing Condition]
Action at the 12th fret: 2.2mm low E side, 1.7mm high E side. The adjustable saddle allows the action to be set to taste.
