[Profile]
Shunpei Nishino was born in Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 1947. He began making guitars in his teens and, at the age of 17 in 1964, entered the workshop of Tsunesaburo Kurosawa as an apprentice. In 1969, he became independent and established his own workshop in Tokorozawa.

Since the early years of his career, Nishino has devoted himself to studying the guitars of Hermann Hauser I, applying the knowledge and experience gained from this research to the creation of instruments with exceptional tonal balance. He was also one of the earliest Japanese makers to produce electric-acoustic classical guitars. His exceptional precision of workmanship led to numerous requests from the acoustic guitar field as well, where he produced a small number of highly regarded models.

However, it is undoubtedly his Hauser Models that most clearly express Nishino’s distinctive character and aesthetic. The beauty of their construction, lustrous tonal quality, and remarkable acoustic balance consistently live up to the Hauser name. The quality of the materials used is also outstanding for their price range, making Nishino one of Japan’s leading makers in terms of overall value and craftsmanship.

[Instrument Information]
This is a new No. 50 model by Shunpei Nishino, made in 2026.

The instrument reflects the seasoned craftsmanship of this veteran maker, finding a remarkably refined balance between tone, construction, and playability that is particularly well suited to the preferences of Japanese players.

While it does not possess quite the same pronounced sustain and elasticity as an original Hauser, it retains the slightly firm, articulate attack characteristic of Hauser guitars. This is complemented by a beautiful transparency, likely influenced by the properties of the Central American rosewood, resulting in a fresh and vibrant overall resonance.

The tonal balance is distinctly Hauser-like, ranging from a full and expansive bass response to exceptional clarity in the upper register. The notes are beautifully articulated and well separated, while the instrument responds with remarkable speed, seemingly synchronized with the player’s touch. Intonation is also exceptionally precise.

The expressive range is equally impressive. Although the overall character has a certain restrained, almost austere German quality, the instrument possesses ample dynamic range and responds sensitively to the player, making it capable of handling a wide variety of classical musical expression.
