Luthier Information
Marin Nejime (born 1986) is the son of master luthier Kojiro Nejime, who builds guitars under the name Alberto Nejime Ono. Growing up under the strong influence of his father, Marin developed an early interest in both music and craftsmanship. After graduating from Jiyu Gakuen in 2009, he committed himself fully to the path of guitar making.
Following several trips to Spain, he stayed in Granada for an extended period beginning in September 2012, where he studied under the renowned master Antonio Marín Montero, who was also his father’s teacher. Grounded firmly in traditional Spanish construction methods, Marin’s guitars incorporate fresh and highly individual acoustic characteristics, resulting in instruments that feel genuinely original—no two guitars are ever the same.
His work is also distinguished by exceptional precision in construction and finishing. The refinement and beauty of his shellac work rival those of both his father and his mentor, giving his instruments a dignified and elegant visual presence.
Internationally acclaimed, Marin received an award at the Granada International Guitar Festival Luthier Competition in 2017. He currently produces approximately five to six guitars per year. His lineup includes the prize-winning Granada competition model, two Aura original models, and a Daniel Friederich–inspired model, each offering a distinct tonal personality. His reputation among guitar enthusiasts continues to grow steadily.
In 2020, his work and an interview were featured in Orfeo Magazine No.15, published by Camino Verde (France).
Instrument Information
This is an original model by Marin Nejime, built in 2023, offered here as a used instrument. The guitar was originally used as a display instrument for overseas exhibitions.
Featuring a wealth of original structural ideas, this guitar skillfully blends the traditions of the Granada school with the distinctive acoustic philosophy of his father, Kojiro Nejime, refined through Marin’s own aesthetic sensibilities. The result is a truly contemporary sound unlike any other.
The signature clarity of the Granada sound—projecting freely and openly—is refined here by the addition of contrasting elements, transforming it into a more polished, lustrous tonal character. While this clarity is a consistent hallmark of Marin’s work, each instrument explores new ideas and approaches, making every guitar unique.
The internal structure consists of harmonic bars placed above and below the soundhole (with openings on both the treble and bass sides of the lower bar), seven fan braces, and two closing bars. Traditionally, closing bars are positioned near the lower bout to receive the ends of all fan braces on both treble and bass sides. In this guitar, however, the closing bars are placed closer to the bridge and receive only four fan braces (two on the treble side and two on the bass side), excluding the center brace and the outermost braces that extend to the bottom.
Additionally, the outermost braces pass through the openings in the harmonic bar and extend up to the upper harmonic bar above the soundhole. Although the overall layout is symmetrical, the treble and bass sides differ in brace shape and thickness, as well as in side thickness, introducing variations in vibrational efficiency and resulting in a distinctive acoustic balance. The main resonance is set slightly above G♯.
The tone is dense and immediately responsive, as if the sound adheres to the player’s touch, with ample sustain and a satisfying sense of depth. Single notes are clear and focused, while chords and arpeggios produce a spacious, auditorium-like presence. The contrast between these qualities creates a rich expressive perspective.
The delicacy of the full shellac finish, the comfortable grip of the flat D-shaped neck, and the excellent playability for both hands further enhance the instrument’s appeal.
The guitar is in excellent overall condition, with almost no visible signs of wear. Upon arrival, it was professionally maintained by the luthier himself, ensuring optimal playability and peace of mind.
As the maker visits the shop regularly each month, comprehensive after-sales support is also available.
