Yamaha, founded in 1887 in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, is one of the world’s largest comprehensive musical instrument manufacturers, holding an overwhelming share in both instrument production and music-related businesses. The company began actively promoting classical guitars at an early stage.

As global demand for classical guitars rose in the 1960s, Yamaha established a dedicated guitar research division in 1966 to develop handcrafted instruments and expand the domestic market. In 1967, they invited Spanish luthier Eduardo Ferrer, a central figure in Granada at the time, to provide instruction in traditional Spanish construction methods. Later, in 1973, Manuel Hernández of Hernández y Aguado was also invited for further technical guidance.

The result of these intensive training programs was the Grand Concert (GC) series, which continues to this day as Yamaha’s high-spec classical guitar line, evolving over time while maintaining its core concept.

[Instrument Information]
This is a 2006 GCS-31, built with a short 635 mm scale length.

It offers quick response and an exceptionally stable tonal output, giving a reassuring sense of control. While the volume is moderate, the response is excellent, with good sustain and outstanding overall balance. True to the Grand Concert series, it reflects a high level of craftsmanship and reliability, combined with excellent playability. The instrument is also forgiving to the touch, making it easy to play.

Finished in polyurethane and fitted with Gotoh tuning machines. The neck has a standard profile and is straight, with minimal fret wear. String height is set at 3.0 mm (1st string) and 3.8 mm (6th string), providing a comfortable, standard tension.

Although 18 years have passed since its construction, the guitar remains in exceptionally clean condition. There are only a few very small dents on the top, and the finish is well preserved. There is no history of crack repairs. without case.
