☆For mail order information, please see the Shop Information section on our website☆ 1964/65 Selmer "Thunderbird Twin Fifty" has arrived! Just Arrival Newcomer!!
Produced from 1964 to 1965, the Selmer "Thunderbird Twin Fifty" was a top-tier model in the Selmer amp lineup. While the brand itself continues, compared to Marshall, VOX, Orange, Hiwatt, etc., it's not a major amp brand in Japan. However, it's extremely popular in the UK and USA, and was beloved by many 60s guitarists, led by Jimmy Page.
Its sound is exceptional, delivering a richly saturated tone that truly embodies the quintessential British sound! This particular unit is the higher-end "Thunderbird Twin Fifty" model, released after the 1963 change to the "Crocodile Skin" covering.
It's an upgrade from the earlier "Thunderbird 30" to this 50W model. It features a tremolo unit and reverb effect, uses a pair of EL34 tubes for 50W output, and of course, includes the Select Tone button, a signature Selmer feature that appeared in the early 60s.
The tubes used are: 2 x EL34, 2 x EC81, 1 x ECC82, 3 x ECC83, 1 x 6BR8, 1 x EM84, plus a GZ34 rectifier tube. Another feature is the built-in foldable amp stand located at the bottom of the cabinet.
Channel 1 has standard volume and tone controls, while channel 2 has a push-button tone selector and tremolo function. Reverb works on both channels. Many of the original speakers were equipped with 12-inch Goodman speakers, but this one has been replaced with two 1969 Date Pre-Rola Celestion G12M Greenbacks.
Otherwise, it's highly original, with a great sound reminiscent of the British Invasion era, typical of Selmer amps! The conversion from the slightly flat-sounding Goodman speakers to the high-harmonic Celestion speakers has become a popular upgrade in recent years. Speaker / Celestion 1969 T1281 Green Back
