1937 sits right at the peak of what's known as Martin's "Golden Era." This guitar has a spruce top with mahogany back and sides, and uses the scalloped forward-shifted X-bracing unique to this period.

After roughly 90 years of complete drying, the wood produces a response that's remarkably powerful yet astonishingly light and quick. The perfectly balanced 000 body size combines beautifully with mahogany's warmth and the raw core of Adirondack spruce, resulting in a rich, fully matured "magic tone" that no modern technology can replicate.

What's especially notable is that this example carries the "Shaded" (sunburst) finish.

In the 1930s, Martin's shaded-top finish was produced in extremely limited numbers, essentially a special-order option. Surviving examples worldwide can be counted on one hand. A genuine 1937 000-18 alone is already close to a miracle, and finding one that also carries a highly original, gorgeous Shaded top is a level of historical rarity you may not encounter again for the next decade, or even the next fifty years.

Given how exceptionally rare this historic piece is, naturally there is only one available.

As this is a used/vintage instrument, the following notes reflect what we could confirm during our own inspection.
- Playing wear and minor dings consistent with its age.
- Bridge and pickguard have been replaced.
- The lock on the handle side of the hard case is broken.

[Playing Condition]
- Action at the 12th fret: 2.6mm (low E side), 1.5mm (high E side)
- Saddle protrusion: approx. 1.5-2.0mm
- Saddle sits a bit low, but there's no buzzing or dead notes; plays well overall.
