This unit features the NEC μPC4741C quad op amp, following on from the original Raytheon 3403!
Early OD-1s featured a quad op amp (an op amp consisting of four op amps). The RC3403ADB was featured in the very early models, while the NEC μPC4741C was featured in lots #8400-8800. The LED indicator was exclusively for the battery checker. Around #8900, the specifications were changed to a dual op amp (an op amp consisting of two op amps), and the LED indicator also began displaying the ON/OFF status. This unit is from the late 1970s, when the op amp was changed from the imported Raytheon RC3403, which was said to have some quality issues, to the domestically produced NEC μPC4741C. Even though they both feature the same quad op amp, the RC3403ADB and μPC4741C produce such different sounds that it's hard to believe they're the same model. Compared to the RC3403ADB-equipped model, the μPC4741C amplifier offers a richer low-mid range, more subdued highs, and a fatter sound. It shows little signs of wear and tear, and is serial number 8400.
