The sound is thunderous! This upper-octave fuzz pedal offers two tones!
"Univox" is a trademark of the Merson Musical Products Company (later Uni-cord) in New York, USA. The SUPER-FUZZ was manufactured from around 1968 to the mid-1970s by Shin-ei Denki, a Japanese company known for producing the Uni-Vibe, beloved by Jimi Hendrix. At the time, Shin-ei Denki produced numerous pedals, both original and on commission from numerous manufacturers. This unit is a later model with a die-cast case, and is available in black, orange, blue, and gray. The large pedal switch and vivid colors make a strong impact. Controls include distortion and level knobs, and a switch to select between two tones: bass-heavy and mid-boost. There's also an onboard semi-fixed octave balance trim, allowing you to adjust the upper-octave output. The sound is extremely eccentric, with a gritty distortion texture, metallic highs, and a powerful, growling low end. It also has a unique, moist quality that gives it a unique feel. The TONE selector allows you to switch between an eardrum-shattering, hysterical sound and an Octavia-esque sound. It's also famously used by Pete Townshend of The Who. This is truly Japan's pride and joy: the world's, if not the universe's, best fuzz! The footswitch has been replaced, making the on-state depression slightly shallower. Other parts have been replaced, including a custom-made battery cover, but it still functions perfectly.
