Edgy, robust distortion. Featuring a Motorola LM308N op-amp. This is a 1987 RAT II!
As you turn up the Distortion knob, the lows increase and the tone becomes heavier, saturating the distortion and crushing the attack. This fat, rough distortion is what defines the RAT. The RAT II features fluorescent paint on the controls and an LED indicator. Equipped with a Motorola LM308N op-amp, this unit has a stronger low end and a more fuzz-like roughness than models from the same period equipped with a National Semiconductor LM308N. In fact, when I compared it to the current RAT II, I got the impression that the wall of distortion gradually became heavier as I turned up the Distortion knob. The impact of low chords, in particular, was completely different.
