This legendary pedal was born in the late 1980s as a legacy of "Marshall amps"!
The Governor's drive sound, featuring an LED clipper, is truly in the Marshall vein. At the time, it was said that even JC (jazz chorus) could have a Marshall sound! I remember it becoming a huge hit when Akira Takasaki used it. Its intense tone is complemented by a mellow, lustrous midrange. The wide-ranging 3-band EQ allows for highly flexible sound creation. It features an Effect-Loop (Send & Return) jack linked to the unit's Bypass switch, allowing you to connect other effects pedals using two Stereo to Mono cables. The original Governor released in 1988 was made in the UK, while the 1998 reissue was made in Korea. While both are original UK-made models, early models feature a green circuit board, while later models feature a blue one. While the British Governor was equipped with a Motorola or Texas Instruments TL072CP (or TL072C) op-amp, the Korean reissue was equipped with a JRC 072BD (or 072D). Comparing the sound of the Korean reissue and the original British unit, the original has a rich, full-bodied sound with a rich mid-low range. The Korean reissue, on the other hand, has a stronger high range and slightly less mid-low range. A reissue version has also been released in recent years.
