Born in Madrid, Spain, in 1931, Arcangel Fernandez formed a friendship with Marcelo Barbero I in 1954. At the time, Barbero I was regarded as the likely successor to Santos Hernandez. Fernandez frequently visited Barbero's workshop to learn the art of guitar making.

Two years later, after the untimely death of Barbero I at the age of 52, Fernandez took over the workshop. Marcelo Barbero I's son, Marcelo Barbero Hijo, joined the team and continued to collaborate with Fernandez.

Fernandez’s approach to design, selection of materials, and, most notably, his unwavering commitment to timbre, elevated his work to an exceptional level. He retired from guitar making in 2011, and his instruments have since become increasingly rare.

[Description]
The Arcangel Fernandez 1967 classic model is now available. Its internal construction follows the traditional techniques of Spanish guitar-making, though it features an unconventional bar arrangement, which is rare in Fernandez’s guitars. This design imparts a sound that is delicate and charming, as opposed to the rigidity typically associated with the brand.

Though it maintains a stoic character, this guitar possesses the ability to fully express the subtleties of music. The overall tone is distinctly classical, a hallmark of Arcangel Fernandez’s instruments.

The soundboard shows evidence of crack repairs on the bass side and near the center beneath the bridge, which has caused some distortion. It is likely that the soundboard has been repainted at some point.
