東ヨーロッパの内陸国、スロバキアの首都ブラチスラバ近郊に工房を構えるDowina（ドウィナ）。
日本と同じように明確に四季がある、豊かな自然の中で製作されているハンドメイド・ブランドです。ブラチスラバとウィーンの近郊、ドナウ川とモラヴァ川が交差する中州にある、今ではDEVIN城と呼ばれる古城Dowinaがブランド名の由来です。
本器はOMサイズに近い"ゴールド･オーケストラ"と称するコンパクト･シェイプに、dowinaでは珍しい2トーン･バースト仕様のGS-GD-S。国内には僅か2本のみの入荷となる限定品です。

Dowina版OMスタイルとなるシェイプ、GD=Gold Orchestraシェイプ。Goldと呼ぶのは読んで字の如し、黄金比から導かれた美しいボディラインを意味します。抱え心地も素晴らしく、長時間の演奏も楽にこなせそうな好バランスです。
そして、"Gold Shell"（ゴールド･シェル）というモデル名称（品番でGSと略）は、dowinaブランドの創始者、Stanislav Petko MarinovがこのギターをSt.Jaque（仏語でSt. Jacques、サン･ジャック）と呼んだことに由来します。St.Jaqueは聖ヤコブとホタテ貝のダブル･ミーニングであり、ボディ･シェイプの呼び名である"ゴールド･オーケストラ"と貝：シェルとを結びつけて"Gold Shell"に至る、という何とも飛躍豊かで遊び心満載のギターです。ひっそりと主張する12Fのシェルインレイはそんなお話の象徴です。
オールド･ストックのシトカ･スプルース材をトップに、インディアン･ローズウッドを組合せたボディ、さらに指板やブリッジ、ヘッド表のみならずヘッド裏までエボニー材を採用した木材へのこだわりも随所に見られる1本で、独特のサンバーストも手作りならではの味のあるフィニッシュです。
小ぶりのボディながら豊かな音量、ローズウッド･ボディらしい芯の有る低音、エボニー指板ゆえの反応の速さが印象的です。Dowina特有の暖かさの中にも煌めきも感じられる充実した響きです。
